Pierce as she executed her Google Academy project with students this morning. I was hoping to be able to offer an extra set of hands, but these students had it all under control!
She teaches 8th grade science so her topic in this unit was about the
Big Bang Theory. The assignment was listed on the board along
with the objectives and "I will, we will" statements.
I love that Mrs. Pierce didn't choose to reserve an iPad cart for this project. She has 8 classroom iPads and she wanted to create her project using the tools she had access to every day.
This was a very real world application of technology integration and it
fit seamlessly into the lesson. The students enjoyed the activity and asked to have similar assignments in the future. Mrs. Pierce seemed to enjoy it too.
When discussing her project, she said, "It was a lot of front loaded work, but the students are doing all of the work now and they are enjoying it. I could have printed them copies of the articles and made them all individually read it, but they would have complained and been bored. I could have even given them the QR codes at their tables, but this gives them the ability to move around some." Well said, Cindy!
This is the first year of the Commerce ISD Google Academy, and is under the leadership of Kasey Bell from our Region 10 ESC. Our final meeting date and graduation is next week!
