Beginning in January, Commerce ISD teachers have decided to join the revolution and ditch their textbooks! Well, not literally, but they are joining our spring book study over Ditch that Textbook by Matt Miller! In the book, Miller challenges teachers to ditch their reliance on the static information printed in textbooks and shift their instruction towards the use of digital resources to redesign classroom curriculum. We have 17 Commerce ISD teachers and 7 outside educators joining our book study via Google+. Even Matt himself is going to visit with us via Google Hangouts before the chat begins. Check out our chat schedule!
These are the excited teachers that cannot wait to ditch their textbooks!
Mrs. Latisha Britton took me up on the offer to take the last book!

I was finally coming down off the "high" that I had yesterday watching 7 of my teachers present their integrated learning experiences to their peers and administrators...but then I created this Smore and I'm all pumped up again! There are times when I feel like I'm spinning my wheels and not making an impact on students or teachers in my district, and then God gives me days like yesterday. The teachers were passionate about their projects, but more importantly, I could see evidence of student engagement and learning. Every project was centered around student CREATION on the devices, not consumption. I have a hashtag for that... #winning
Technology is never perfect and it's not always the best tool to use in every situation. Let's face it, technology integration is hard! So it makes my heart happy when teachers will step up and and step out of their comfort zone to try something innovative with their students. Commerce ISD has graduated over 30 teachers from this program and we are excited to continue the academy next fall. This spring, we have something new to offer our teachers with the Google Academy. More information coming on this!
I can't forget to give a great big "THANK YOU" to Kasey Bell. This is the 3rd year that Kasey and I have worked together on the Digital Fluency Academy. She not only brings an endless knowledge of technology, but also a passion for education and students. And, she's a pretty great friend too!
Enough of me, it's time for the real rockstars of Commerce ISD to shine! Check out our graduates, their presentations, and Tweet them some feedback!
